The ancient Roman village of Baelo Claudia
Set on the coast of the Straights of Gibraltar in sight of the Moroccan mainland across the Mediterranean, this fascinating Roman fishing and trading port was set up over r2000 years ago. The town was in its heyday during the 1st and 2nd century, but fell into bad times partly due to being inhabited by pirates and by the 6th century had been abandoned, not helped by many earthquakes who's damage is still evident today.
