Trentham Monkey Forest
On the outskirts of Stoke-on-Trent lies Trentham gardens where this 60 acre beautiful woodlands lie. and following a concept originating on the continent where members of the public could be acquainted with primates living as they would in the wild, Monkey forest awaits to greet you. In the forest live in two groups 140 free ranging Barbary Macaques, this species is on the endangered list and the only one not to live in Asia but in the atlas mountains of Morocco and Algeria, living in mountainous terrain from up to 2200 metre sup and growing thick winter coats that are shed in the summer , these Barbary Macaques are ideally suited to living outdoors in the british climate all year round.
The forest has a very easy to navigate figure of eight path and the primates can be viewed very close up, often walking right past you without a care in the world.
